PRIDE Bermuda

The early 80’s was met with a growing concern, by parents, government officials and community members, that drugs were being interwoven into the tapestry of our community with a target on youth.  However, enough parents weren’t aware.

In 1983, Mr. Cal Ming (Royal Commission on Drugs) and Mr. Roderick Pearman (Chairman, Misuse of Drugs Board), attended a substance abuse prevention conference hosted by Parent Resource Institute for Drug Education (PRIDE). Their experience would eventually lead to a group of parents traveling to the same conference in 1986. Four parents out of the group were emboldened by the message and decided to carry the work forward in Bermuda.  Diana Corday, Judith Burgess, Wendy Lambert, and Vaughn Harvey started PRIDE Bermuda. PRIDE held a couple of simple principles – parents talking to people in the community, parents influencing parents.  This laid the foundation of PRIDE’s legacy. Today, the passion and vision our founders had continues to be a driving force in Shift.
